Got Questions About TRX Training?

Our Most Frequently Asked Questions

What is TRX Training?

Total Resistance Exercise, or TRX for short, is a system of suspension training that uses your body weight and gravity as resistance. TRX allows you to train virtually anywhere, whether home, outdoors, or in the gym, with minimal equipment.

The Navy SEALs developed this technique because they lacked the space and equipment to keep themselves in an ideal physical shape according to their rigorous requirements. Also called “suspension training,” they needed something challenging, thorough, and small enough to fit aboard any ship without taking up too much room.

What is a TRX exercise class?

A TRX exercise class uses a small group workout model led by TRX-Certified Trainers for personalized growth with assessments. For the duration of this class, your body will be suspended while moving forward, backward, or side to side. This workout is made effective by its repetition of movement to tone the adjoining muscles for increased muscle mass and strength. The TRX bands give you the freedom to move your body differently, which offers a foundation for developing core stability and mobility.

The TRX class is a high-intensity workout that forces you to stretch and strengthen your muscles and takes time for rest between intervals. The breaks in the classes are focused on lengthening tight muscles while using the straps as actions like opening up the chest or rotating shoulders. TRX incorporates many aspects of fitness into one intense session. Class participants report feeling more flexible with an increased range of motion after participating in this challenging and rewarding experience.

Is TRX training good for weight loss?

Yes. TRX Suspension Training creates an intense metabolic effect by challenging your entire body in all planes of motion. This effect helps with weight loss by building lean, toned muscle mass throughout. Whether you are looking to shed some excess belly fat or tone your legs, TRX training is unlike almost any other training system available.

Is TRX the same as Pilates?

No, but they can be used to complement each other.

  • TRX suspension training allows us to train our muscles with creative exercises that use our body weight and the force of gravity. These are multidimensional, useful, effective, safe workouts for everyone.
  • Pilates is a workout that will help you develop your strengths while simultaneously improving flexibility, balance, and stability in the core.

The key difference between the two is the use of gravity and resistance through suspension training, challenging your entire body in all planes of motion.
